Jerome Laplace
I'm the CEO of Generation Robots and Humarobotics. Generation Robots is retailer based in France targeting anybody who is interested or just curious about robots. My background is in Biology and computer science. That's why we sell only programmable robots because I'm interested in artificial intelligence, algorithms and advanced behaviors. To share this passion, we have decided to select a range of programmable robots and for each robot to find all the sensors and accessories available on the market to help our customers to build the robot they want and to expand as much as possible their knowledge of robotics.
Humarobotics is a brand of Generation Robots created in early 2011 that aggregates our own products and services such as :
- Training : we provide training on NAO robots
- Programming : we program advanced behaviors for robots such as NAO
- Electronics : we create our own robotics sensors
How did your interest in robots / robotics start?
Although this is not an original story, my passion was born during my studies. One of the teacher I had in Masters was a researcher in artificial intelligence. He gave me the virus ! Since then I have been programming short programs to know more about artificial intelligence until I found that some affordable robots exist on the market.
What kind of actions needs to be
done in the community to increase the interest and the awareness of
robots / robotics?
Robotics is a long term technology that has
the potentially to shape our future. I think robotics, as a science
and as a complex system should be included at different stages of
the education process starting with the youngest. This will also be
the occasion to learn how to think technology, its purpose and the
relationship with human development.
Robotics is an apply science that help
teachers to illustrate many different fields : mathematics,
physics, mechanics, electronics, programming, cognitive science and
even fields that are not scientific on the first hand such as
psychology or philosophy.
The community has to help the education
world to integrate robots in education programs by proposing
adapted robots and programs.
If you have any closing remarks or
comments about robots / robotics, then go
ahead.
I would say that robotics is an accessible
science where one could build and program its own simple robot. The
gap is not very big at the beginning and on the contrary, the field
is very large so that skilled people have also the opportunity to
do a lot. Robotics is a popular science !
