Esther Verschoor
I'm Esther Verschoor a 43 year old woman, married to Rene and mother of two grown up children Sven and Sanne.
I'm a former therapist in crisis intervention mentally disabled but since almost 3 years an artist who works in the Taxidermy art/figurative art field with a side interest for automata and robotics.
How did your interest in robots /
robotics start?
Pretty soon after I started to make art
dolls I discovered some beautiful automata and wanted to
incorporate that in my art dolls.
I made 4 simple automata art dolls in these
three years but still thought it was pretty complicated to make the
necessary parts for them myself.
So I started looking on internet if I could
buy the parts (in metal) somewhere and that's when I discovered
Makershed.com.
I ordered a robot kit (the crab from
Mechamo) and had so much fun building that one (the doll that is
suppose to be the upper body from the crab is still a work in
progress). So as you understand I'm a complete beginner but eager
to learn. Due to my lack of technical skills I need to use kits or
the help of my husband who is way to busy at the
moment.
What kind of actions needs to be
done in the community to increase the interest and the awareness of
robots / robotics?
I think you (Vive Les Robots!)
already are doing a good job when a site as Boing Boing spend
topics on robotics, robots and automata.
I see more and more artists use robotics in
their art.
Of course the fact that the needed
components are getting smaller and cheaper, like the Arduino, makes
it much easier to use them in art pieces.
I would say just go on being active on the
social media sites so people learn about all the great
possibilities there are with robotics.
