Presentation: Story of Roboexotica
In this second article on Roboexotica Magnus Wurzer is talking on the back story of the first cocktailrobotics festival in the world.
Ben Cowden built this machine for Roboexotica 2009 in Vienna, Austria as part of an artist-in-residence with Monochrom. The machine makes a Corpse Reviver #2, albeit without the garnish. It is all mechanical and built with food-safe components.
Robots and Cocktails
Culture:
"I have always been fascinated with cocktails and cocktail
culture. This is thanks to a friend of my half brother who lives in
the US. I was visiting him in 93 and again in 94 in Seattle. And
that was where I met his friend Russell Scheidelman who was really
an iconic figure in the local cocktail scene, he
threw incredible parties. And he has a pretty nifty bar in his
apartment. And so for an Austrian coming from a country where we
drink beer and wine and most people if you tell them a Martini they
think of the brand Martini and not about the cocktail".
"This enriched my taste and gave me something to think about for years and I'm really sure this played into wanting robots to "build", to "manufacture" cocktails. When we first pictured it we said it was clear that this is the thing we want to do, and we want to invite our friends to do it with us, and show us their ideas of how a robot can "manufacture" cocktails. And so we thought about doing a festival".
