NoDesign_Lab: Urban Musical Game

How did NoDesign get the idea for The
Urban Musical Game, and what kind of thoughts did you feel during
the process of getting the work accomplished?
The idea came originally from our reflections with the researchers
from IRCAM during the research project MO. Ex.: How can we use a ball to make music?
How can we transform physical properties of bouncing, spinning,
throwing and free fall into the natural musical interface? The
ideal occasion was Futur en Seine, a parisian festival of life and
digital creation. So our idea evolved into a project that
unifies music and sports, the game embraces challenges and
rules of both universes. We produced robust protoypes and we are
now ready to play.
A Participative Music Performance
While part of the audience is involved into the performance the
other part watches a concert.
The real feeling came when we tried it for real for the first time
by playing a game in Center 104
That was the moment when we invented games and interactions
together with the researchers. Real test of that kind of interfaces
are inestimable, these new phenomena and interactions we can hardly
imagine if we don't try.
